Pathology
Meningocele
A meningocele is herniation of meninges and CSF, without brain, through a bony defect; when brain is included it becomes a meningoencephalocele. At the skull base these present with CSF rhinorrhoea or otorrhoea, or with meningitis.
Repair — often endoscopic for anterior skull-base defects — reduces the sac and reconstructs a watertight, multilayer closure.
