Background
Notes on this case’s cranial location, pathology and surgical approach, with published sources. General education only, not advice for any individual patient.
Cranial Location
Olfactory Groove
The olfactory groove lies in the anterior cranial fossa midline over the cribriform plate, related to the olfactory tracts, the planum sphenoidale and, below, the ethmoid sinuses. Olfactory-groove meningiomas grow large and silently, often presenting with anosmia and personality change.
Bifrontal, pterional, supraorbital or extended endonasal approaches are used, with attention to the anterior ethmoidal arteries and to watertight skull-base reconstruction.
