Cranial Location
Temporal Lobe
The temporal lobe is a common site for gliomas and cavernous malformations, and is the target of surgery for mesial temporal lobe epilepsy. Dominant-side resections risk language, and the mesial structures border the midbrain, posterior cerebral artery and optic radiations.
Awake mapping, image guidance and selective amygdalohippocampal or anterior temporal techniques help maximise resection while protecting eloquent function.
